POSITION DESCRIPTION
Billing SpecialistThis is a critical position as all income depends on the accuracy of the original account set-up and timely and appropriate billing. Attention to detail and critical thinking skills are of utmost importance. This position is responsible for keeping current with correct coding procedures and analyzing charges appropriately. Impeccable customer service skills are required.
1. Create new patient accounts using information provided by the Benefits/Authorization Specialist. This includes patient personal demographics as well as appropriate insurance information. Review completeness and accuracy of the information and return to the Benefits Specialist any concerns. Annotate the patient note screen to reflect the referring physician and, when indicated, the date of injury. Include a note as to whether the benefits are in or out of network and what the patient's portion of the payment will be. When visits have to be pre-authorized, enter the information as to the total number of each type of visit, the corresponding reference number and date range.
2. Enter charge information on each patient account ensuring the appropriate use of CPT and ICD9 combinations and compliance with all Federal, State or Local regulations. The correct date for each visit must be entered along with required supporting information such as date of injury, referring physician, claim number, and authorization number, if required.
3. Track number of visits used to number of authorized visits and notify clinics of any additional authorizations needed on a daily basis.
4. Print paper claims daily and forward to the Office Assistant. Ensure daily charge sheets and/or additional documentation is submitted with claim forms per insurance requirements.
5. Send requested daily or weekly charge reconciliation reports to clinics.
6. Assist with any other special projects or duties as assigned.
